Dreaming with Bees & Hilma af Klint

Back by popular demand, we are resurrecting our Dreaming with Bees & the Art of Hilma af Klint circles. Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic whose groundbreaking work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrain. In 1896, deeply affected by the death of her younger sister, she formed a collective called “De Fem” (The Five). This circle of female artists practiced seances, automatic writing, and mediumship, laying the groundwork for her mystical exploration. Believing her work was guided by otherworldly spirits, and was ahead of her time, she stipulated it remain hidden until 20 years after her death. She completed over 1000 artworks and over 26,000 journal pages in her lifetime. Her work would not be exhibited until 1986 during an exhibit called The Spiritual in Art. During the next six months, we will be intuitively working with our bee allies to explore her art from the lens of what is happening in our world today. She believed her art carried energetic codes meant for the future. We believe the future she was referring to is now. We will dream into the language of color and texture to decode these messages in hopes of helping to connect more deeply with collective consciousness. You do not need to have any experience with art or beekeeping or remember your dreams. All who have a curious mind and playful spirit are welcome.
